Crowns are the official currency of Taste of Toronto. If you wish to eat or drink from the restaurants, bars and exhibitors at Taste of Toronto, you must pay with Crowns. If you purchase your ticket prior to the event, you will receive a Crown Card that can be loaded online.

If you purchase your ticket at the gate or collect your ticket at Will Call, you will receive a Crown Card which you can load onsite at a Taste of Toronto Crown Bank. A new feature this year is the auto top up feature. Auto top up adds Crowns to your Crown Card when your balance falls below a minimum amount.

All registered Crown Cards are eligible for a refund up to 60 days after the event. For more information, please read the FAQs below.

Q. What is the monetary value of 1 Crown?
$1 CAD = 1 Crown.

Q. How do I obtain Crowns?
The majority of our ticket packages include a Crown Card with a predetermined value.

Q. Where do I get a Crown Card?

If your ticket is purchased 10 business days prior to the event (June 13th), your Crown Card will be mailed to you. If your ticket is purchased after June 13th, you can collect your ticket and Crown Card at Will Call.

Q. Am I required to purchase a Crown Card if Crowns are not included in my selected ticket package?

If you do not have Crowns included in your ticket package, you will be required to purchase a Crown Card for $1. Your Crown Card can be purchased at a Taste of Toronto Crown Bank where you will also be able to add monetary value to your card. For more information on loading your card, please see the Topping Up Crowns section below.

Registering a Taste Account and linking a Crown Card

Q. Why do I have to register a Taste Account and link my Crown Card?

If you register your Taste Account and link your Crown Card in advance, we will be able to track, cancel and issue a new Crown Card at no cost to you. Any unspent Crowns are transferred onto your new card, so you can continue dining at the show at no additional cost.

Registering your account also allows you to top up online and review your transaction history. Additionally, if you register before July 31st, 2016 you will be entered into a draw to win a dinner for two at a participating Taste of Toronto restaurant.

Auto top up is a new feature wherein your account will be automatically topped up with $20 should your balance fall below $10. This allows you to enjoy the many aspects of Taste of Toronto without having to worry about running out of Crowns. Any unspent Crowns purchased through the auto top up function will be automatically refunded to your credit card post-event.

By registering you will also be able to apply online for a refund on unspent Crowns purchased by cash during the Taste of Toronto.

Note: All refunds will be charged at a fee of $3.50.

Q. How do I register a Taste Account and link my Crown Card?

Register your Taste Account:

Step 1: Visit: tasteoftoronto.com/register

When you are visiting the page for the first time you will need to click the ‘Sign Up’ button to register your details.

Step 2: Confirm your registration

You will receive an email from Intellipay asking you to confirm your registration by clicking the activate button in the email. Follow the instructions on the website to finish activating your account.

Link your Crown Card:

Step 1: Click the ‘CARDS’ button in the header bar of the website.

Step 2: Enter your Security Code

This is the shorter five digit code on your Crown Card.

Step 3: Enter your Card Number

This is the longer 16 digit code on your Crown Card.

Step 4: Click the Add button underneath

Once your Taste Account is created and your Crown Card is linked you are all set to go!

Having problems registering your Account or linking your Crown Card?

Q. Can I register multiple Crown Cards to the same Taste Account?

Before the event, you can link more than one unused Crown Card to your Taste Account. Please be aware that each of the linked cards will be spending from the same Crown balance on this account (similar to a joint account). This allows families to spend from the same account while visiting different restaurants, exhibitors, and features.

Once a card has been activated onsite, you will only be able to link one used Crown Card to your Taste Account.

Q. Can I de-activate a Crown Card from my Taste Account?

If for some reason you choose to de-activate a Crown Card, the card will become void and you will not be able to reactivate or link this card to another Taste Account.

Topping up Crowns?

Q. How do I top up my Crown Card in advance of the Taste of Toronto?

You can top up Crowns online through the ‘Top Up’ header of your Taste Account. Please visit tasteoftoronto.com/register to do this.

Q. How do I top up my Crown Card at Taste of Toronto?

You can top up at the event from one of the onsite Taste Crown Banks. To avoid queues, we suggest topping up online in advance or enabling auto top up.

Q. How many Crowns do I need to top up?

You can top up as little or as many Crowns as you like, so long as it surpasses the minimum requirements found below. The average restaurant dish is between 6-10 Crowns. For three dishes and two drinks, we suggest 30-40 Crowns to begin with.

Q. What is the minimum I can top up onto my Crown Card?

One Crown if you are topping up with cash onsite.

10 Crowns if you are paying with a credit or debit card.

How do I spend Crowns?

Q. Where can I pay using my Crown Card?

You can use your Crown Card at all restaurants, exhibitors, bars, and features (if applicable).

Q. How can I check the balance of my Crowns?

If you have registered a Taste Account and linked your Crown Card you will be able to log in at tasteoftoronto.com/register where you will be able to view your balance. You will also be able to check your balance at one of the Crown Banks onsite.

What happens to my Crowns at the conclusion of Taste of Toronto?

At the conclusion of Taste of Toronto 2016, unspent Crowns qualify for a refund within 60 days of the event. To be eligible for a refund you must register a Taste Account and link the Crown Card(s) you are requesting a refund for.

All refunds will be charged at a fee of $3.50.

If you had applied for auto top up, any unspent Crowns purchased through this method will be automatically refunded back to the card used.

If you would like to refund any unspent Crowns purchased onsite by cash or included as part of your ticket package, you will need to submit your banking details in the form below for a manual refund.

How to apply for a Manual Crown Refund:

Step 1 : Make sure you have registered an account and linked your Crown Card at tasteoftoronto.com/register.

Step 2 : Sign into your account and click on the Refund tab along the header bar.

Step 3 : Fill in the form to register for a refund.

Please make sure you apply for your Crown refund using the steps above within 60 days of the last day of the event.

Q. Will I be able to use this same card again at another Taste Event?

If you would like to purchase tickets to another session of Taste of Toronto 2016 you are very welcome to come back and continue using your Crown Card. The Crown Card will not be valid for any other Taste Event.

Troubleshooting: Problems with Taste Account registration and linking a Crown Card?

Q. I am having problems filling in the registration for my Taste Account, what should I do?

  • Please ensure that you have filled out all the fields marked with an *

  • Please ensure that you re-typed your password correctly

Q. I have registered my Taste Account but I have not received the activation email. What should I do?

  • If you haven’t received an email confirming your registration, check your spam folder.
  • Make sure you used the correct email. You can check this by attempting to create a new account with your email; if you are able to create an account a second time with the same email, you didn’t type your email properly when you originally registered.

Q. I have activated my Taste Account but I am having problems linking my Crown Card. What should I do?

  • Make sure you have typed in the user ID number and security code correctly

Q. I have activated my Taste Account but when I go to log in, it says my username isn’t found. What should I do?

  • Please ensure that you are using the same email that was used to register your account

If you are already onsite, visit a Crown Bank and a member of staff can delete your account to allow you to register your Taste Account again.

Troubleshooting: Other Questions

Q. Who else (other than myself) will have access to my account details?

Nobody will ever have access to your account details  other than you.

If you lose your Crown Card and you have not registered a Taste Account and linked your Crown Card then you will be unable to retrieve the remaining Crown balance. Please register your Taste Account and link your Crown Card to avoid any disappointment.

Q. Will the card reader activate if I walk past it?

No; your Crown Card has to be held against the reader for it to be activated.

Q. How secure is the Crown Card?

Quick response: Absolutely secure – the whole system is bank grade security.

Techie response: This system uses Common Criteria EAL3+ for those that care to know! All data is encrypted with a minimum of 256 bits.

Q. Will the Crown Card radio frequency interfere with my other cards such as debit or credit cards?

There are multiple layers of security with all chip cards so the Crown Card will never cause an issue with your debit or credit cards.

Terms and Conditions

  1. Crowns are the official dining “currency” used to purchase food and drinks from the restaurants and exhibitors at Taste of Toronto 2016. Crowns purchased for Taste of Toronto 2016 can be used for the different sessions but will not be accepted at any other Taste Festival.
  2. One Crown holds the monetary value of $1 CAD. Only whole number multiples of $1 may be purchased.
  3. There is a minimum top up of 10 Crowns if payment is made using a debit card, credit card, or PayPal. If you top up using cash, the minimum value that may be added is 1 Crown.
  4. Restaurants and Taste of Toronto exhibitors will not accept payment in cash or through any other payment mechanism at Taste of Toronto 2016 for food and drink consumed on site – only Crowns may be used. Some vendors will accept cash or credit/debit cards for goods to be used or consumed offsite.
  5. In advance of Taste of Toronto, Crowns may only be purchased from Ticketmaster. During Taste of Toronto sessions, Crowns may only be purchased at Crown Banks.
  6. Crowns are not refundable at the event and cannot be exchanged by the holder for cash.
  7. Unspent Crowns qualify for a refund for up to 60 days after the conclusion of the event.
  8. All refunds will be charged at a fee of $3.50.
  9. IMG Canada is not responsible for Crowns Cards which are lost by visitors. If you register your Taste Account and link your Crown Card in advance we will be able to track, cancel and issue a new Crown Card at no additional cost. If you have not registered your Taste Account and linked your Crown Card in advance, your Crown Card will not be replaced.

Important Note Regarding Crown Card Refunds:

All customers that topped up their Crown Cards online or purchased their Crown Cards onsite with credit cards will receive their refund on or around July 20th.

All customers that bought Crown Cards with cash or a debit card must manually register their card at www.tasteoftoronto.com/register by September 4th, 2016 to qualify for a refund. Refund payments will commence July 17th and will take place weekly throughout the 60 day refund period. Please allow five business days from the refund date for your refund to appear in your account.
